One of Ottawa's newest volunteer groups, Computers for Communities (C4C) will be exhibiting at the seventh annual Ottawa Eco-Stewardship Fair to be held at the RA Centre next to Billings Bridge Shopping Centre, on 24 April 2010. C4C's dedicated volunteers rebuild donated older computers, equip them with Linux-based operating systems and get them into the hands of low income residents, computer centres and the organizations that support them. This keeps these machines working instead of being recycled or trashed. The internet has become so vital to life in the 21st century that C4C tries to help make sure that no one in Ottawa is left on the wrong side of the “digital divide”, without access to the internet. “Making sure that everyone has internet access in Ottawa is good for the whole city,” C4C founder Dave Sampson explained. “Being connected means being able to search for jobs, connect to services and do things like banking or reserving a library book. C4C takes older PCs and makes them useful again. Keeping computers in use helps those in need and also adds up to good green stewardship for the people of Ottawa.” The Eco-Stewardship Fair is a great match for C4C's aims, as its focus is on green products, services and programs. The fair brings together organizations and businesses to present the best of smart and sustainable living in Ottawa. The 2009 show attracted 5000 people to the one day event and featured 100 exhibitors. The Ottawa Eco-Stewardship Fair runs from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm on 24 April 2010 at the RA Centre. Admission and parking are both free.
